Mrs Hibbert, our Emotional Well-Being Lead, writes…

As part of our student induction programme many new students ask ‘What are school dinners like?’

We have a fantastic cook who provides healthy meals available to all students and staff.

We provide breakfast, break time snacks and also hot or cold lunchtime meals all free of charge for our students. At breakfast and break time we offer toast or bagels plus fruit and cereals.

At lunchtime we offer a selection of freshly prepared meals such as pizza, curry, pasta, jacket potatoes, plus a selection of sandwiches. All of our meals are served with a selection of vegetables and salad. Desserts include fruit salad, cakes, ice cream, yoghurt and fruit or biscuits.

At this festive time of year our lovely cook Steph, also offers a wonderful Christmas Dinner option. As Highfields we invest time, thought and money into our social times – it is not just a time for staff to ‘do a duty’ and students to ‘get fed’. Staff and students eat together at the same table and actively enjoy time away from the classroom, building relationships through conversations over lunch and joining in social games such as football, pool, darts and card games.

Students also have the chance to receive a treat such as chocolate or sweets as part of our weekly reward assemblies.

Research suggests eating well boosts concentration and focus during learning and can also help to lift mood and general wellbeing. We hope that offering a varied menu often throughout the school day helps our students to do their best.

If any of our students need help with meals over the Christmas period please see the following links for meal vouchers and local food banks.
