Last week we bid farewell to our Year 11s. Usually we have a more formal ‘Record of Achievement’ assembly followed by a BBQ, inviting the families of our young people to attend alongside the young people themselves. However, the COVID-19 pandemic – whilst the signs of recovery are good – continues to impact how we function as a school and we continue to try to make the best of a difficult situation.

The current Year 11s have had their entire KS4 disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, yet they have flexed as the winds have changed and they have persisted – a folder titled ‘Record of Achievement’, which we give to every student who leaves Highfields, does not really do justice to what they have achieved.

This year our young people had a BBQ and each were given a shirt to be signed by their schoolmates and staff – alongside their ‘Record of Achievement’.

Many of our staff said it was the most uplifting Year 11 Leavers event in living memory. Maybe this is an indication of what we have been through together this past two years – but maybe it also reflects the fact Highfields has increasingly become a school recognised for the sheer strength of its relationships.

Here are a few photos from the event… sadly we have to blur out the faces of our young people to protect their privacy – but please be assured there were plenty of smiles!

Bon Voyage Year 11 – which means good luck with the next part of life’s journey! We’re always here if you need us.
