At Highfields, since new leadership took over in 2018, we have adopted a mantra of ‘education everyday, for everyone‘. What this means is when we have young people who have been out of education for a period of time and in some instances, have ‘given up’ on the idea of school or feel too anxious to attend, we look to rebuild their school timetables in small steps – starting with an hour per day and working from there.

For some young people the very thought of coming to a school building is anxiety-provoking. To engage these young people, we have worked in local cafes and libraries with them on a 1-to-1 basis under our ‘Outreach’ provision. We have now taken this project further and organised our own dedicated space in the town centre for this work – known as the ‘Personalised Learning Centre’. This project now comes under the leadership of Mrs Jones – sarah.jones@highfieldscollege.org.uk.
