Here’s a blog post with photos from Mrs Roxborough about this week’s Science Week activities:

To support this year’s Science Week theme of “curiosity”, Miss Roxborough and Miss Fitton took five Year 11 students to Westmorland Primary School for the second year in a row to run Science workshops. We discussed with Year 5 students what makes them curious, and posed the question “How do you build a robot?”. After a short discussion, we introduced the Art-Bots that students would be creating using electrical circuits!

All the students created their own working model using batteries, switches, wires and motors, learning how to create a simple series circuit that was positioned into a paper cup with 4 pens for legs!

It was so rewarding seeing how dedicated the year 11’s were in helping the children to succeed. All volunteers engaged in guiding the primary school students step by step with patience, great enthusiasm and maturity.

“Thank you so much for the two science sessions with year five. The children loved it! The girls did a fantastic job helping the children when they found it hard. They were really polite, helpful and enthusiastic. Looking forward to the next one.”- Westmorland Science Lead.
